On November 29, 2010 House finally fell H. res. 771, an invoice from Congresswoman Betty McCollum Saint Paul, Minnesota introduced and designating September 26th as national mesothelioma awareness day. The law calls for President in American, federal departments and agencies, States, cities, organizations and media, annual mesothelioma awareness with their ceremonies and monitor activity at least one day in the year call.
Mesothelioma is a rare tumor of the protective lining of the lungs, heart, chest and abdomen, which one is caused mostly by prolonged exposure to asbestos, toxic mineral that was used in construction and industry over the centuries 19th and 20th. Mesothelioma usually takes between 20 and 50 years to develop, but are not three or four stage symptomatic, until it reaches so terribly difficult to diagnose.
Because most mesothelioma patients are diagnosed as soon as your cancer has metastases, usually 18 months exceed the life expectancy. Even mesothelioma patients with treatment that includes a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, only six months of life.
"In the year 2000, my friend and predecessor, Congressman Bruce Vento was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma." "Despite warnings about the dangers of asbestos, too many Americans are decades of anything from the disastrous nature of this disease," says Congresswoman Betty McCollum. Congressman Bruce Vento died in 2000, only nine months after his diagnosis.
Mesothelioma awareness day was founded in five voluntary Meso Foundation. Since then, hundreds of volunteers across the nation have requested that set your city and State Governments local mesothelioma awareness days.
